As you can see from the photo on the left, the long run for this week was another 12 mile run. Not so bad in the big picture, I remember when I used to dread long runs of that length, and definitely a reprive from the 20 miles of the previous weekend. Anyways, I was lucky enough to get some company for the run – both Dave and Grant ran with me, or perhaps they’d say I ran with them. In either case, the weather was one of those perfect days for running (except for the wind) – cloudy and cool. I over dressed somewhat (wore my jacket and rad pants instead of a long sleeve shirt and shorts) but no so much that it really bothered me. I’m hoping for similar weather for race day. [...]
Posted by Kevin, on May 11th, 2006 Well not quite, but I did take tonight off. I’ve been really tired this past week and since I didn’t get enough sleep last night and was still tired when I got home from work, I decided to skip the four miler that I was supposed to do tonight. That should mean I’ll be well rested for the long run on Saturday, which is a manageable 12 miles. Looks like it’s only going to be Dave and I running together. So we’re down to 17 days (8 more training runs) left until the marathon…I’m getting excited. I feel I should publicly state, I’m not so sure I’m going to make my prediction of 3:45:00. At this point I’ll be happy to come in under 4:00:00. Who knows though, I just may surprise myself come race day… [...]

Well the longest week of my training has come and gone…all 40 miles (64 kms) of it. I’m happy to report that I survived the week without too much trouble. My shins and my knees had been bothering me a bit earlier in the week but thankfully they were fine on Saturday for my 20 miler. As you can see from the photo on the right, the big run itself was a pretty boring course, and the fact that I was running alone didn’t help. [...]

Well at the end of week 14 was a 14 mile run. This week was a step back week, and I was happy for the drop in mileage after last weekend’s 18 miler. I did the run with Grant and Dave and as you can see from the photo on the right, we ran along the river / canal again, which I always enjoy. Next week is my longest week of training with a total of 40 miles (64 kms) to run. [...]

Well not quite, but still 18 miles and I believe the longest run I’ve ever done. I started the run with Dave but finished alone. Dave and I ran together for the first 10 miles or so but he dropped off once we hit the hill on the other side of Parliament Hill. Considering we were running at a pace faster than Dave would have run alone, that’s some nice work Dave! [...]
Posted by Kevin, on April 6th, 2006 Ok so this post is actually only about running (more on Panama later) – and how I slacked off big time while I was down in Panama. Of the 4 runs (totalling 29 miles) I only managed to get two of them done (totalling probably about 8 miles). Pathetic! The two runs I did manage were the Tuesday and Thurday runs, but I skipped the big one – the most important one. Excuses? Nothing good – it was HOT and I was hungover a couple of the days. Grant did better than me – he ran 4 days I believe. If I had known that he was running (where was the invite buddy?) perhaps that would have motivated me a bit more. Oh well. [...]

I’ve raised the bar for the longest run I’ve done with no breaks – just over 60 minutes now (60:42 I believe). Don’t get me wrong – I’ve done longer runs but those included a few one minute walking breaks in them. Anyways, turns out skipping Tuesday’s run was maybe not such a bad thing. We’ll see if I feel the same way on Saturday for my long run. This week is a stepback week so the long run on Saturday is only 10 miles, which shouldn’t be too much of a problem. [...]
Posted by Kevin, on March 22nd, 2006 I’m feeling a bit guilty since I skipped my run last night. The only thing I can comfort myself with is the fact that it was a short 3 miler that I skipped and not a longer run. Tonight’s 7 miles is going to be tougher because of it I’m sure but I guess that’s my punishment. A quick update on last week’s training: things went well. No major problems although I will say that I really don’t want to do another 13 mile run on a treadmill! Talk about boring! [...]

Saturday was a day that just begged for you to blast out U2′s “Beautiful Day” all day long! Got up early (0600) to get ready for a long run with Dave. We ran the route you see in the photo on the right – starting and ending at Dave’s place. At about the midway point of our run, we ended up in the middle of a race that was going on (I believe it was a 10 K race). It was nice to be surrounded by runners though, adding a little motivation to the training – at least for me. [...]

Another great week of training. I’m even hoping to get in some cross training tomorrow – perhaps a skate on the canal.
Grant and I ran the route that you see on the left. We left from his place, ran to the canal and then beside the canal to Bank St (Lansdown Park). As soon as we turned around it got really windy – or at least that was our theory because we didn’t want to believe that we had run with a tail wind up to that point. [...]
