Trek 1500
A new road bike to add to my list of recently purchased toys. Picked this bad boy up on Easter weekend at Bushtukah. They were certainly friendly there, but they didn't set the bike up for me. I still need to look into doing that.
Anyways, I got Steve's help in making this decision too. He had pointed me to Cyclogik and told me to take a look at the Kona Zing they were selling for $1350. I talked to a guy at work, Paul Smeulders, who is a big road biker, and asked him for his opinion. He said he thought I'd be happy with it, but suggested that since I was going to be going to Cyclogik anyways that I may as well take a look at the Opus Andante while I was there. The Andante was $2000.
I went down to Cyclogik on a Friday night to pick up my mountain bike (the guy who was selling it dropped it off there) and while I was there I talked to a few people about both the Zing and the Andante. The feeling I got was that the Zing was really good value for your money but perhaps the Opus would appeal more to someone looking for more performance. I hummed and hawed for a while and decided that I'd sleep on it before I made the decision. On my way home I decided that the Opus wasn't worth an extra $600 - at least not to me. I went back down on Saturday morning to purchase the Zing. When I got there I found out they didn't have my size - they had just sold the last frame in my size earlier that morning. They told me it was highly doubtful they would be getting any more in.
Well since I had already made the decision that $2K was too much for me to spend, I had to start looking for a different bike to buy. Steve had previously pointed out the Treks when we were at Bushtukah so I called them up and found out how much they wanted for the 1500. It was $100 more than the Zing was, but it also had a few components that were better so... Anyways, they had one in my size so I got them to hold onto it for me.
I've yet to take it for a ride - I still haven't found my helmet (I really need to do that) - but I've been pretty focused on running lately so I haven't had time for much else. Soon though.

I see you opted for the granny-gear, probably the right decision for you.
It's not so much that I opted for it Lawson, just that it came standard. Probably would have cost me more NOT to get it. I don't need it, if that's what you're getting at. :)
