You may have noticed the new Flickr Photos block on the left column on this page. Well I am soo onboard with flickr now! Boris told me about Flickr a long time ago and I signed up for a free account but never really did anything with it because I had my own gallery on my server.
Meanwhile Boris kept uploading photos like mad and I think he even decommissioned his own gallery (yep - just checked and if you go to gallery.bmannconsulting.com you get redirected to his flickr photo page) because he moved everything onto Flickr. I didn't understand this at all...why pay for something that you can do for yourself for free?!
Well at last I think I understand. While we were away I had plans to update my blog with posts on where we were and what we were doing and also upload photos to our gallery. Great plan, and I actually did some of that, until there was a power outage back home and the server went down. ARGH! But that is only one of many benefits that flickr has over my gallery. Benefit number 2 - UNLIMITED storage! Benefit number 3 - reliable backups of my photos! I'm sure there are many more benefits but those alone have sold me.
I had pretty much convinced myself that I should upgrade my free account to a pro account (especially after hitting the bandwidth limit on the free account so quickly) when I got some spare cash - after all we still need to pay for our honeymoon - when my buddy Boris comes along and GIVES me a pro account! What a guy! Thanks again Boris!
Anyways, I'll likely follow in Boris' footsteps yet again and eventually move all our photos over to flickr so keep your eyes peeled on my flickr photo page for my latest photos.
I'm still deciding if I'll only upload the good photos to Flickr and keep all my photos in my gallery. I have a really bad habit of taking a lot of photos and not deleting any so...
Next step - finding a reliable host for my blog. :) Hey Boris - does Bryght have a cheap solution for a small guy like me? :)

Troy and Tan's Flickr photo page
Well, maybe not quite all of them. But basically, I import everything into iPhoto, delete the blurry ones, and upload everything else.
Then, I just make sets out of the good/best ones.
And yes, I still have to upload lots of "old" photos. Kate was just bugging me about that today. I've got them all sitting on a hard drive, just have to go through that upload process.
And you're welcome :P
...sign on to 43 Places to track all of the places you've been, and the places you want to go. Here's my places page. And yes, of course it's integrated with Flickr...
Boris - good ideas. I've got over 1000 photos from our trip so I'm sure I can whittle that down to at least 800 or so before uploading them all. I like your idea of uploading all and then making sets out of the good ones though! Oh and I checked out 43 places - need to spend more time on that site in the near future.
No comment on the bryght solution for a 'personal publisher' like me? You guys only have the one solution right now?
You've always been a cheap skate, but everybody else is happy spending this for a supported, maintained solution that "just works".
This might be overkill for a "personal" site, but that's also not what we're targetting.
Excuse me for a minute Boris while I get slightly offended by your comment, "You've always been a cheap skate". Where the hell is that coming from?! Because I choose not to spend a significant amount of money per month on something you yourself have said would be 'overkill' for my needs, that makes me a cheap skate???
If you think I was suggesting that you were charging too much per month for your service, we'll that's DEFINITELY not what I was suggesting and I apologize if you took it that way. I'm quite sure that for the service you are providing it is MORE than a fair price.
Is it a crime to ask if you have a 'cheaper' (perhaps less feature rich) solution?
I guess looking for a better deal these days means you're a cheap skate. I'll have to remember that next time I'm shopping for a car...no more haggling with the sales people.
Perhaps I'm just tired and cranky and I'm reading too much into your cheap skate comment but I've got to tell you...that hurt.
