Well it seems 2009 may not be the year where I keep up with my blog posting. We’re only 19 days into the new year and I’m already a few posts behind. Oh well, that’s the way life goes when you have a family I guess. I’d rather be concerned with living my life than writing about it. That being said, here is a quick little write up about Christmas at the Haggerty household.
For the first time in what seems like a really long time, we opted to stay at home for Christmas this year. While travelling to various places to visit family is nice, there is definitely something to be said for staying home and relaxing. Of course since we were staying home, we’d have to get a tree (we normally get one even if we aren’t going to be home) and put up the outdoor lights and decorations (again – we always do this anyways) so it wasn’t all relaxing. :)
This year we opted to go the cut-your-own route for our tree. JK had recommended a place not too far from our house so we decided that’s where we’d go. We showed up, pretty much completely unprepared for what was to come. Things to bring next time (if there is a next time) would be: snow pants (or better yet – tough duck), sled for pulling the kids, chainsaw, and more patience. Quick version of the event: Sleigh ride out to the tree farm. Find the ‘perfect’ tree which turns out to be two trees growing together. Find another ‘pretty nice’ tree. Attempt to cut down tree with provided saw. Cursing and bitching and moaning by Kevin. Get help from Joe (Shelley and Joe came along for the ‘fun’) and manage to get tree cut down. Drag 10 foot tree about a kilometer back to car. Stop for some free hot chocolate – burn mouth on scalding hot hot cholocate. Oh – forgot to mention that Liam picked up horse manure too. Fun times. In the end, we got a nice tree and Amy did a fantastic job of decorating it.

The ‘perfect tree’ (that was actually two trees)

The finished product – Amy did a fantastic job!
Since we were staying home this year, my dad and my sister came down to visit us for the Christmas break. There were a few flight delays (due to the snowy weather), but thankfully they made it to Ottawa without too much trouble. Sadly the same can’t be said for everyone who was travelling over Christmas this year – our next door neighbours didn’t have much luck unfortunately, with the mother getting stranded in Calgary for a couple of days. At any rate, Liam was certainly very happy to have his Grampie and aunt around for the holidays. Thanks for coming down guys – we enjoyed having you!
That’s about it. For those who we may have missed (sorry!), and are interested, the annual Haggerty family newsletter can be found here.

If Grampie warrants a capital “G”, shouldn’t aunt warrant a capital “A”???
I actually considered it, but decided that it didn’t make sense. I was debating on whether or not to use a lower case G as well. I’ll leave it how it is I think. :)
