I’m loving how the Auditor General, Sheila Fraser, is really giving it to the government. My latest favourite finding is that the government is charging too much for passports – by a full $25! Apparently they issued 3 million passports last year – with a $25 profit on each, that works out to a cool $75 million! As noted by Mrs. Fraser, Government services should be run with the goal of breaking even – not gouging tax payers. What happens with that extra $75 million? As others have noted, perhaps it should be put back into the system with the goal of improving turn around times – have you ever been to a passport office? Those lineups are insane!
