Unlimited data plans have arrived at Rogers

A friend of mine here at work just let me know that the $7 unlimited data plan has arrived at Rogers. Check out this link to see for yourself. Surely that means the iPhone will be here any day now right???

  • I don’t see any $7 plan clicking on BC as the province. Any $7 plan I’ve ever seen has been for either the Blackberry or specific phone models which are totally restricted, not open Internet, and definitely not able to connect to your computer as a modem. So, while I would love for this to be true, I’m highly skeptical.

And…isn’t that header graphic at my house?! I still have that cowboy shirt :P

  • First off, yes Boris, that header image IS from your place – I’m closed in the murphy bed. :)

Second – Dave already told me that the link I provided was less than optimal in that he had to select a line of business and then a province and then re-click the original link to get it to come up.

    Rogers $7 unlimited data

  • Here’s the fine print:

Offer available with new subscription to any voice plan and Rogers Vision Unlimited On-Device Mobile Browsing Plan both on a 36-month term. A $100 discount on a Rogers Vision phone (including LG Shine, MOTORAZR2 V9, Samsung A736 LG TU515, or Sony Ericsson K850i) will be applied as a credit to the customer’s bill and will appear on their first or second invoice. An Early Cancellation Fee (ECF) applies if, for any reason, your service is terminated prior to the end of the service agreement. The ECF is the greater of (i) $100 or (ii) $20 per month remaining in the service agreement, to a maximum of $400 (plus applicable taxes), and applies for each line in the plan that is terminated. In connection with your wireless data service, a Data Early Cancellation Fee (DECF) also applies if, for any reason, your service is terminated prior to the end of your plan’s commitment term (Data Term). The DECF is the greater of (i) $ or (ii) $ per month remaining in the Data Term, to a maximum of $ (plus applicable taxes), and applies in addition to the ECF for termination of your service agreement. If you subscribe to a plan combining both voice and data services, both the ECF and the DECF apply.

  • Comment on the Flickr image:

“non Rogers certified devices are not eligible” and “non Rogers (3rd party applications” are also not eligible.

So, like I said, locked down Rogers only devices. Sorry, this is not the plan. Bell has the same one, just with the extra twist since they aren’t GSM, you *can’t* bring your own phone.

    Fun pic :P

  • Ahhh, but what I was getting at was that this plan is just what they need to introduce the iPhone. If they brought out the iPhone then it WOULD be a Rogers certified device…

  • David Smith

It catches us up to where the US was, what 3 years ago? More?

  • Since the US has $40 unlimited, I just don’t see this being a real plan.

As well, the “non Rogers (3rd party applications)” would also seem to jinx any iPhone deal: you can install a ton of stuff on iPhones.

Also, the current non-plan data charges are 4ยข/KB, so they are actually *raising* rates for usage outside the plan…

  • A buddy of mine has a data plan with Rogers right now (actually I have one too but haven’t played around with any 3rd party apps) and here is what he said:

Yeah I read that, but here is the good news. That same stipulation was/is on my current data plan. That is there so that people don’t use bittorrent clients on their phones to download movies and stuff :-). You can browse regular websites and check regular pop/IMAP email accounts.

Yahoo Go! (http://mobile.yahoo.com/go) is basically an always on data client that gives you stuff like an IM client and widgets, this is why they specify it. As well Google Maps (http://www.google.com/gmm/tour.html) is a very interactive and from the looks of it data intensive application that looks like it could double as a GPS. I think that is why they specifically state those sites. Check out the google thing it is really quite cool actually.

  • Good read. Kind of dashes my hopes for an upcoming iPhone debut in Canada though. :(
