Week 14 of training a bust

I’ve been following this training program by Hal Higdon for my marathon training this year. Things have been going really well for me so far this year. I missed a week way back in February because of our trip to Mexico but other than that, I’ve been pretty strict about my training. The other thing I’ve done differently this year is to train by heart rate (rather than pace or time), except during my pace runs, and I think it’s made a huge difference.

Well last week was another exception to my strict training schedule. I ran on Tuesday as scheduled but then woke up Wednesday with a sore throat and a congested head. I ‘worked from home’ all day and didn’t start feeling any better despite the extra rest. I skipped my Wednesday run and went to bed early. Thursday came and I decided to head to work, mostly because we were going out for a going away lunch for my boss who recently quit. By the time I got home from work I was feeling much worse than when I woke up so I once again opted to skip my run and go to bed early. Friday is a rest day in my program so no skipped run there. :)

Ontario bans light bulbs!

incandescent light bulb

According to this article I just read, Ontario is moving forward with a plan to ban incandescent light bulbs, which is considers inefficient. The plan is to ban the sale of incandescent bulbs by 2012. Apparently Australia was the first to suggest this and will be doing the same by 2010.

I’m F-U-REous

Hmmm…I think I may have spelled that wrong. :)

I can maybe, sort of, kind of understand people being a bit upset about Ottawa Senators fans booing Sidney Crosby – even though I don’t agree with them. I mean at this time of year it’s all about trying to get the other team (and especially their star player) off their game right? Sidney’s a big boy and I’m sure he understands that nobody in Ottawa has anything against him personally. But one thing I definitely don’t agree with (and think is definitely classless) is booing during the singing of ANY national anthem. We heard that happen this evening from some Pittsburgh fans during the singing of “Oh Canada”. Brutal.

Ms. Cox gets herself a blog

Welcome to the world of blogging Jody! And after reading the first two posts you’ve put up, I can see yours is going to be a blog I make sure to keep up to date with. Very well written and fun to read. Let me add my name to the list of people who are wishing you well on your upcoming adventure to Vietnam – should be interesting to say the least.

I also love to travel, but haven’t got nearly the variety in places I’ve visited that Jody has. Here is the list of countries that I’ve manged to visit so far. Unfortunately, I don’t see this list growing in the near future.

Facebook – what’s going on?!

Holy crap! What’s going on with Facebook?! As Steve pointed out, it’s the fastest growing social network site on the net right now, or something like that anyways. I got sucked in by my friend Julia Freeman who is down in Australia right now. She posted some photos on the site and then sent me a link so I could check them out. Of course I had to sign up first to see them – which I did – and since then…I’ve been finding people I lost touch with way back in elementary school! Crazy! It’s very addictive – logging in every once in a while to see what others are up to and if by chance I get an email saying someone has marked me as a friend – it’s like Christmas morning! Who will I find next?
