It’s DEFINITELY a boy!

When we went in for an ultrasound at week 20 the technician was quite convinced that we were having a boy. Nevertheless, there was still a bit of doubt in the back of our minds. Couple that with Amy’s father continually asking how his ‘granddaughter’ was and well…things didn’t seem quite as certain.

Well yesterday we put the doubt behind us. Amy had to go in for another ultrasound since her doctor was a bit concerned that the baby was growing too large. That news didn’t exactly fill Amy with joy, but now that the ultrasound has come and gone, she is resting a bit easier – more on that later. Anyways, back to the whole ‘is it a boy’ question… During the ultrasound, the technician pointed out to us what were clearly testicles – so there you have it, it is settled! The Haggerty’s are having a boy. Sorry John (Hunter) – no girly sperm here. ;)

So as I was saying – after the ultrasound Amy was feeling a lot better. After all the measurements that were taken, the technician came up with an estimated weight for the baby (currently) of about 7 and a quarter pounds. She also mentioned that he’ll likely gain about a half a pound a week meaning that in three weeks time when it’s time for him to come out, he’ll weigh about 8 and three quarter pounds. Amy was ok with that – she had been dreading a baby of over 9 pounds.

When I mentioned our visit in my department meeting, a woman in my group said that the estimates don’t mean a damn thing, or at least they didn’t in her case. They told her that she was going to have a larger than normal baby but that the baby came out weighing just over 6 pounds. He was long – but not heavy. So…all we can really do is wait and see I guess. I really wish it would just happen – all this waiting is starting to get to me! :)
