3/4 of a marathon?

18 Mile Run

Well not quite, but still 18 miles and I believe the longest run I’ve ever done. I started the run with Dave but finished alone. Dave and I ran together for the first 10 miles or so but he dropped off once we hit the hill on the other side of Parliament Hill. Considering we were running at a pace faster than Dave would have run alone, that’s some nice work Dave!

I ended up finishing the run in 2 hours and 53 minutes and I was happy with that. Certainly not as fast as the pace I hope to maintain for the marathon, but this is training afterall.

It’s funny, I found this run easier in many ways than the 9 miles I did on Wednesday evening. Could be because I didn’t take any breaks on that run and we used a 14 and 1 strategy for this run. Anyways, I’m feeling much better about the approaching marathon now after completing this run and seeing how I felt afterwards.

I did have some knee pain during the run, but nothing that stopped me from actually running. I think it may have something to do with my old running shoes – afterall I’ve had these shoes though some of my training last year, the half marathon, through the summer and then all of my training since October of last year. I’m also planning to get new orthodics soon so I’m sure that will help too.
