I’m NOT moving again!

packing hell

Well it’s finally over – all of our stuff has now been moved into storage until Feb 15th at which time it will all be moved into the new house. The moving part went pretty smoothly actually, it was the packing and the cleaning / clearing out part that was hell.

We thought we were in pretty good shape going into the weekend before the move. We even went to bed early on Saturday night after having spent the whole day packing. By Sunday at midnight we knew we were in trouble. I ordered Amy to bed (she had to get up for court the next day) and continued to pack. By 4 am Monday morning my body had had enough – my throat was killing me and the rest of me was really achy. I had been up for 21 hours at that point. I collapsed into to bed – only to drag myself out 3 and a half hours later to get ready for the movers to show up.

The movers were late showing up – but considering the weather I wasn’t surprised. Also, they called to say they were going to be late so no harm done. Heck – I got an extra hour to finish up the packing so I was happy. After they showed up they got to work pretty quickly. They were good – much better than the last movers we had when we moved into this place. In the end it took them about 6 and a half hours (with an hour break for lunch plus a few coffee breaks) to load everything into the truck and haul it away.

After the movers left – it was time to clean up the house and clear out the miscellaneous crap that didn’t get packed into the moving truck. Turns out there was a lot of it – including a lot of garbage. We were just getting down to business (probably around 1600 or so) when we got a call from our lawyer; apparently there was a problem with the purchasers financing and the closing date was going to be moved to the next day. This wasn’t necessarily bad news for us, it meant we got to take our time cleaning up and clearing out. We relaxed a bit. About 30 minutes later we got another call from our lawyer – everything was a go. Oh no – panic time!

We had told our lawyer that we’d be out by 1800 but apparently this haden’t been communicated to the new owners. They showed up before 1700! Now we were really under the gun to finish up. The big problem was that we had too much crap and not enough vehicles. Even with Shelley’s car there (she had thankfully stopped by to help us clean/clear) we needed more space. The back of my truck was filled with garbage which meant I needed to empty it. Well lets just say there are advantages to living close to a subdivision under construction.

When I got back from emptying the back of my truck, there was another truck in my spot – the new owners truck. They wanted to leave a bunch of stuff in the garage and Amy had okay’d it. It made it more of a pain in the ass for us to finish what we were doing but oh well, I’m sure they were having a much worse day than we were so… Anyways, everything that was left in the house was piled into the bed of my truck and away we went – off to Dave’s place which is to be our home for the next 6 days.

I can’t thank Shelley enough for coming over to help us out yesterday – with her being pregnant no less! I would also like to thank Dave for offering up his home to us for the next six days and also Bonnie’s Mom, Reka who has offered her place up to us for the rest of the time we are homeless. I also want to thank everyone who is storing bits and pieces of our crap – Trisha and Jamie, John and Dana, Shelley and Joe, and Dave. If anyone else has some of our crap – please let us know. :) We’ll have to have a ‘bring back our crap’ party after we move in to the new place.

So good-bye to 102 Kittiwake Dr, it was a good two and a half years we lived there.

Well, that’s not too bad Kevin. I’d call that a light sleep deprivation training session :-) You’ll need a few more of those, but I’d say your on your way to doing a nice little 24-36 hour adventure race. You just need to get a bike. And climbing gear. And nav gear. And Paddling gear. OK, a bunch of gear… but you’re on the right track. Only difference is that instead of 3 hours sleep, you’ll get 20 minutes. And instead of 21 hours up, it’ll be 36ish, and you’ll be racing the whole time. Oh joy, can’t you just feel the rush! Ha ha ha. Good luck with the rest of the move.
