So I’ve been slacking off in my running since before Christmas. The last run I did was a short 3 miler on the Tuesday before Christmas. All the travelling we did didn’t help and then getting sick when we got back home just did me in. Anyways, yesterday, with the help of Steve I got back on the horse.
I had suggested we do a 10 mile run (since I haden’t run in 2 and a half weeks I didn’t want to over do it) but Steve suggested we just run for 1.5 hours instead. Since it’s winter and the trails are very snow covered, running for distance may end up just being discouraging which is why Steve suggested we run for time instead.
Surprisingly, I felt pretty damn good for the whole run. I think we stopped a total of maybe 4 times, at crosswalks waiting for the lights to change, once for Steve to tie his shoes and once for me to suck back an energy gel. The run ended with an all out sprint to the finish – just for fun. I saw the end in site and slowly starting picking up speed, Steve let me get a bit ahead of him before deciding that he didn’t want to fall behind. We finished neck in neck. The run ended up taking us 1 hour and 32 minutes on the nose.
The weather was cold (around minus 18 I think) but once you get running, you don’t even notice it. The only hang up was that Steve forgot to blow the water in the tube of his camelback back into the bladder and it ended up freezing on him. That meant no water for Steve for the whole run. I offered him some of mine but he figured it would be good training for him so…
