Wow! Did I ever get into the zone at the end of tonight’s run. It was just a short 5 miles, but by the time I got to 4 I was contemplating a walking break. However, instead of taking a break, I tried something else. I picked a point straight ahead and ran towards it while counting down the time I had left to run – 8 minutes and 34 seconds or 514 seconds. It was amazing – rather than thinking about how tired I was or maybe how much I wanted a break, I totally zoned out and just ran. I think I could have easily tacked on a couple more miles before taking a break. I’ll have to see if I can do that for my long run on Saturday…
In the end, 5 miles in 43 minutes.
I did mine on the treadmill in the gym, and finished it in 49 minutes without a break… certainly not as fast as your 8 minute plus pace… but still happy I did it without stopping. Certainly better than my run yesterday – I was thinking today that maybe giving blood Monday had something to do with it. Who knows…
Yeah, that’ll suck the energy out of you for sure. Good work on the run Dave! Should we try for no breaks on the 7 miler on Saturday? :)
… maybe not at your bunny like pace, but at a measured one :D
Hey Kev… I was in the zone this afternoon doing my 6 mile run… I was chugging along great with less than a mile to go when the treadmill shut down – 45 minute club maximum set on this one :( Anyway, I got it started back up and finished up in 52:30 … a great time for me!
