Got up late today, after staying up a bit late last night. Wasn’t really looking forward to the run I had to do today, which is maybe why it didn’t go so well I attempted to follow the route that I had marked out last night on Wayfaring but things never quite work out as you plan them so there were a few changes made on the fly. Here is the actual route that I ran. As you can see, I’m 0.05 miles short of 9, but I’m not too broken up about that.
As I allued to, the run was far from perfect. I didn’t feel good about it from the get go and things didn’t really get any better. It is HOT here today, my guess would be about 30 degrees. I used to think that high humidity was brutal (and still do actually) but let me tell you, really dry conditions (like 7% relative humidity) takes it’s toll on you too. When I made it to the half way mark of my run, I ended up walking for like 5 minutes! And from then on, things were tough, but I pushed my way through it and I’m glad I did. Final time was an hour and a half – 90 minutes or 10 minutes per mile.
Running outside has it’s pros and cons for me. I like running outside, cause there are people and things to see and it makes the running not quite so boring. One thing that I notice I do, and it’s not necessarily a good thing, is that I change my pace when I spot a runner up ahead of me. I don’t do it consciously, or at least I try not to, but I seem to always try to catch up and pass them. Obviously this is not a good thing when you are trying to pace yourself for a long run. Of course, that exact same thing can be a good motivator too, especially when you are running alone.
Anyways, from the sounds of things, Dave had a much better run than I did. Perhaps next weekend I’ll do the 10 miles on a treadmill…nah – I’ve got take advantage of this nice weather before heading back to the snow.
The link to your wayfaring map has a typo, which results in an error page. If you remove the extra apostrophe at the end it should work.
Nice map of your run!
Thanks Tim – I’ve fixed it now. I had created a route based on what I *thought* I would run and linked to that originally, but then I went back and deleted that route and created a route for my actual run so when I updated the link on this post, I guess I missed an apostrophe.
