Well Ellie is out of surgery. Actually she got out last night. I picked her up at around 8 pm. They had wanted her to spend the night there but since they don’t have anyone at the actual clinic past 8 pm, we decided that she’d be better off at home where I could watch over her.
I was told that the surgery went well but that we wouldn’t know for sure if it was a success for up to six months! Ellie needs to stay confined to her crate for the next three days and can’t get any exercise for at least the next 30 days. I’ve been carrying her up and down the stairs and will continue to do so for quite a while. She may have to start sleeping downstairs. :)
Since she’s not getting any exercise, we need to cut back on her food as well because we don’t want her gaining any weight, in fact I was told that she could stand to lose about 10 pounds! If she gains any weight, she is pretty much guaranteed to do the same thing to the ACL on her other back leg.
Vets aren’t cheap! $1825 for this little surgery. We had pet insurance, but it only covers accidents and for some reason they don’t consider this an accident, even though the vet said he would consider it an accident. We’re going to try getting a letter from the doctor to try to fight the insurance company but I’m not holding my breath on actually getting anywhere.
Anyways, I’m hoping she recovers quickly so she can get back to being the active dog she likes to be.
