Chillin’ in Auckland

It’s five after eight in the evening in Auckland right now. Amy and I just finished a nice meal and are about to head to bed. Yes, it’ll be an early night for us tonight, but we did a lot today.

Got into Auckland at around six this morning. Total travel time to get here was around 28 hours including all the stopovers. Anyways, after picking up our rental (a Toyota Echo) and figuring out how to drive it, we headed for the city. I’m not going to say we got lost, but lets say we took a more scenic route than we originally planned. Please note that we were ALWAYS headed in the right direction, just not always on the street we wanted to be on. :)

Luckily we got to check into our hotel early today. Right after checking in, we took a 4 hour nap before doing a walking tour of the city. We saw lots, and walked around 9 km today.

We’ve booked a boat tour where we hope we will get to see / swim with dolphins. That’s booked for the morning of the 13th because we’ve been told it’s a 4 hour drive to the Bay of Islands which is where it takes place. Our plan is to get up relatively early tomorrow and finish up our sight seeing in Auckland and then head up North. We should arrive at our destination sometime around 1700 if all goes according to plan.

I think that’s about it for now. Seems to be pretty easy to find Internet around here so we should be able to keep up with the regular postings. This time we’re only paying $1 NZ / 20 mins. :)

Hey, I am looking at getting the Canon S2 IS. What do you think of if thus far?
Have fun in the Northlands, its amazing up there. And good luck with the dophins, we only saw 2 when I went out. I also highly recommend the beach that is off the upper eastern tip (Teapotupotu bay). Good surf and I saw a bunch of Dolphins here as well.

Hey guys! glad to hear you are having a good time so far. Just a suggestion – you might want to either mention here or email the parents and let them know where you are staying during your trip in case of emergency.

Anyway, have fun and can’t wait to see the pics!
