Well it’s official. I got a confirmation email from the coordinators of the NCM saying that my registration has been switched to the Half Marathon event.
Now I just need to get rid of this cold that I picked up and I’ll be all set. A week and a half to go until the race. I think I’ll just use Grant as my ‘pace bunny’ and then make my last stride before the finish just slightly larger than his so I beat him. :)
Well, well, well, how the mighty have fallen. Every daydreamer must come back to reality at some point. I agree though, it is better to realize your limitations earlier rather than later, I wouldn’t want you to be one of those people that finish the marathon in an ambulance, but still, it must be a pretty big blow to the ego to quit before even reaching the starting line!
I’ve reread your entire Running, scratch that, “Run-Walk” blog. Are you sure you’re even ready for the half? You can follow me if you want, but there won’t be any walking. I’ll be using the 1:50 pace bunny – which works out to 5:15/km or 8:24/mile – for the first 18k anyway, and then it’s “go time”. How’s your finishing kick?
This is going to be fun.
Are you sure you still want me to speak at your wedding?
I’m not sure what I did to deserve that little tirade from Lawson but oh well. To be quite honest Grant…I’m a little worried about Sunday. I haven’t been running since before my stag. That cold that I got sure didn’t help things but I’m sure I’ll be ok. Played Ultimate last night and I didn’t keel over so…
5:15 per km eh? Shouldn’t be a problem. On my last 32 km run I averaged 5:00 per km for the first 24 kms, and that was with my run-walk method. You say you’re not going to walk eh? What about the water stations?
So my last comment was me being polite. I had just gotten out of bed and was a bit tired and wasn’t really feeling like trash talking, but now that I’m fully awake:
All this from “Shortcut” Lawson. Hey Grant…have you figured out how you’re going to cheat on this one yet? You going to have Bonnie stashed away somewhere with the car?
Talking about quitting before reaching the starting line…at least I started out planing to do the full, unlike some who pulled out excuses like “family time” for reasons why they couldn’t train for it. If it haden’t been for some back luck I’d still be running the full. However, I decided to take some wise advice and not risk hurting myself before my wedding and honeymoon.
And as for my finishing kick…don’t worry about me. Have you even run the full distance yet?! I think you said your longest run has been 80 minutes so far…well my friend, that prompts me to ask you the same question, how is your finishing kick? As for myself, I’ve already run the half marathon distance about 4 times so far, so once more shouldn’t be too big a task, especially if I’m running at your relaxed pace.
Just jokes baby, dats’all!
Assuming your feeling okay Sunday, I would have to say that you have the advantage since my longest training run was only 10 miles and I did that at slower than my planned race pace.
There will be no walking though! At the waterstations I plan on running as close to my pace as I can without spilling my drink all over me. That reminds me, I’ve got to get some paper cups to practice drinking on the fly!
Looking forward to Sunday, just try not to kill me before then!
Come on now, there’s no need to bring up the “Shame of Nation”. That was a long time ago, the course was poorly marked, and I did return the bronze medal. How can the 5km mark of an out-and-back 10k course not be the turnaround point?
I’m actually using this half-marathon as a base for my quest of a legitimate 10k time of 42:28 … 42:28 … that number is forever scarred into my mind. The horror, the horror, … take that hill!
