I made a decision yesterday as I was finishing up my 32 km run. I’m pretty sure that I wont be running the full marathon at the end of May. It’s a disappointment, I know, but I just don’t think my body is ready for it. I will definitely do the half marathon though.
The run yesterday was going well. When I got to the half way mark, 16 kms, I was still feeling pretty good. However, when I got to the 21.5 km mark…my body was telling me to stop. Between then and the 24 km mark I did a lot more walking than I had wanted to. When I got to 24 kms, I stopped to chat with a friend of mine who’s house was just off the path I was running on. I stopped for just over 20 minutes and then got back on the trail and started running again. I ran for about 2 more K and then walked for a minute and a half or so. I ran for another K before deciding that I was pretty much done. I walked the remaining 5 kms. I was disappointed.
In the end it took me 3:40 for the whole trip, including the 23 minutes that I had stopped. I’m tempted to say that if I took out the 23 minutes I was stopped I was averaging 10 minutes per mile but the thing is, I probably would have had to walk the entire 8 kms back home if I haden’t have stopped for those 20 minutes so…
Anyways, I’m pretty sure I’m only going to do the half. I don’t want to push too hard and hurt myself just before my wedding and honeymoon. If I keep up with running over the summer then I may think about doing a marathon in the fall, perhaps with my brother. We’ll see.
Now I just need to figure out how to switch my registration from the full to the half.
