Staying current

I booked a plane for this past Saturday because it was coming up on 30 days since my last flight and the club has a 30 day currency policy for pilots with less than 100 hours of flight time. Once I reach 100 hours, the requirement drops to 60 days.

I asked Trev if he and Julie wanted to go flying with me since I haden’t taken either of them up yet. He wasn’t sure if they already had plans but said he’d get back to me. In the end only Trev came up because Jules had to stay home to look after Lotus (a dog) who ended up staying with them this weekend.

I had booked COH for the flight but when I got there I was told that COH was offline and that I’d be taking PMR instead. I was a little disappointed since COH has the bigger engine but oh well.

I had booked the plane for the 1530 time slot, but by the time 1530 rolled around, the plane was nowhere to be found. After waiting, and waiting, and waiting it eventually showed up. The thing that really pissed me off was after the guy parked the plane, he took his good old time coming back inside with the hobs board. He was strolling around pointing things on the plane out to his buddy. And when he got inside, no apology for being late. ARGH! He takes up 25 minutes of my time slot and can’t even say sorry. He gave some lame excuse about getting going late because the plane was in the hangar and was nearly empty. Well…you should have showed up early for your booking and made sure everything was good to go! Why should I pay for your mistake? ARGH!

Anyways, Trev and I went out to the plane and Trev got settled while I did a walk around. Trev made some comment about it being ‘cozy’ inside to which I replied, “You should see the 150s, these are down right roomy compared to them!”

After calling up clearance and doing a run up, we headed off towards Stittsville. We circled the town and had a look at my place and the dog park where I walk with Ellie. One of these days I’ll remember to bring a camera with me and take a picture of it from the air. After that we headed over to Carp and did a touch and go. Not my best landing but I didn’t scare Trev too badly I don’t think.

After leaving Carp we headed over to the practice area. I practiced some of my upper air work while Trev had a look around. We flew over Constance Bay and then over to Luskville before heading back in. I did another touch and go at Ottawa before asking for the full stop. I’d say my last landing was probably my best of the day.

I think Trev had fun and he’d be willing to go up with me again. One of these days I’m going to fly down to the Brockville airport so I can pick him up there. Perhaps Julie can come with us next time.

It was good to be up flying again. I wish that the budget would allow me to go a little more often. Perhaps once the wedding is over I’ll have a little more spare cash.
