I was reading this post on my friend Boris’ site which mentions he was considering getting a convertX box which is made by Plextor.
The convertX is a PVR solution for the mac which used a USB 2.0 interface. It is comparable to the Elgato EyeTV product and in fact uses the Elgato software for the mac.
Anyways, I went to the page that Boris mentioned and clicked on the “add to cart” button for the Canadian online store. I got some error about not having cookies enabled even though they are enabled. I then tried clicking on the “add to cart” button for the American store and it worked. I went back and searched the Canadian store manually and couldn’t find the product which explains why I couldn’t add it to my cart.
At this point I fired off an email to their sales department, sales@plextor.com asking why the product wasn’t available in the Canadian store and when it would be available and how much it was going to cost.
It’s been a day and a half now and no reply. I even sent them a follow up email saying how disappointed I was with their silence and said that it didn’t seem like they really wanted to sell me the product. Still no reply.
For those who think that I’m too impatient, I’m going to have to disagree. In the world we live in today, I shouldn’t have to wait a day and a half for a response to a simple question. If this was an email to their tech support I might be more forgiving, but it was to their sales department. If these guys are in the business of selling stuff, they should really be more prompt.
Finally got the following reply from Plextor sales:
Unfortunately, the CovertX TV402U is not available in Canada yet due to a limitation of the EPG. There is currently no software support for the channel guide/listings for Canada. We hope to have a resolution in the near future. Please stay tuned!
Thank you for your interest in Plextor products.
Brutal! I had no plans to use the channel guide anyways… I’ve replied to their reply saying that I can live with that ‘limitation’ and asking if they had a distributor in Canada where I could pick one up. Not looking good.
They told me that it can be purchased from Tigerdirect or from CDW. I’m checking both places now…
