Wayfaring

So I finally had a chance to check out Wayfaring as suggested by Boris. I really like it! It seems to be a lot easier to use than the Google Maps Pedometer that I’ve been using up to this point, and I really like the way you can save different maps. Each map can have one or more waypoints on it and also one or more routes. Very cool! I created a route for my 9 mile run that I have to do tomorrow. This way, not only will I be able to keep track of mileage, I can also track where I actually ran. Awesome! [...]

What a difference a day makes

Last night’s run was great. I felt soo much better than I did the day before, and the funny thing is that I didn’t eat anything all day before the run. I guess it was the McDonalds before the Wednesday run that did me in. I finished the 3 miles last night in just under 26 minutes. While I was running, there was an American news program on. They were talking about some army deserter who was looking for safe haven in Canada. While I don’t really have much opinion on that, I had a really good laugh when the reporter who was covering this mentioned something about the Prime Minister of Canada, Jean Chretien. Poor old Paul Martin – nobody down here even knows he’s PM. :) [...]

SOLD!

Well in case you didn’t see my comment, our house has been sold! As I already mentioned, I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend our agent Allison Landon to anyone who is looking to sell their home. She worked very hard for us and the result was a sale within a very short time after listing with her. I was against the whole Realtor thing from the beginning, I just didn’t like the idea of paying a whopping 5% to someone for basically sticking a sign on your lawn. Well I was wrong, a realtor does a lot more than that, or at least in Allison’s case she did. [...]

Pre-paid gas, the Goodyear blimp and a tough run

I went to get gas for the rental yesterday, I pulled up to the pump, pressed the button for the grade I wanted and tried to pump the gas. The attendant came out and told me that I had to either use a credit card or go inside to pre-pay for the gas. Didn’t expect that! I mean I’ve NEVER had to pre-pay for gas before. Welcome to Carson California I guess. Anyways, I decided to just pay at the pump with my mastercard but it asked me for my zip code, which I obviously don’t have so I had to go inside afterall. After guessing at how much it would cost to fill up the car, I went back out to pump the gas. I ended up guessing high so I had to go *back* inside to get a refund for the difference. All in all, quite a time consuming experience. [...]

Hollywood!

I decided to hit the road again today to see if I could get a decent shot of the HOLLYWOOD sign. I did a google search for ‘hollywood sign’ and found hollywoodsign.org. They had a few suggestions for where to go to get a good picture, but I decided on the Lake Hollywood one. Here is one of many shots I got: I had planned to go to the shopping centre at the corner of Hollywood Blvd and Highlands Blvd, but parking was an absolute nightmare and I didn’t need that stress so I opted to just keep driving and head back to the hotel. Lots of stuff to do before tomorrow morning anyways. [...]

Running through Long Beach

I guess it’s a good thing that the week I decided to slack off and skip two runs was a ‘step-back’ week cause wow…did the five miles I did this morning ever seem tough! I think I started out way too fast and that was likely part of my problem. I ended up walking for a bit longer than a minute at around the half way mark – the end of the Belmont pier. I was debating whether or not I was going to be able to finish the rest of the run without walking, but I eventually got my second wind and finished without any trouble. I think I could have gone a few more miles if needed. This was my route. [...]

Sunny California

I got the word from work that I had to make a trip to a customer site to replace some hardware and monitor the system for a while. The beauty part is that the Customer is located near LA, California! So here I am in sunny California. I flew into LAX and picked up my rental car. The woman at the rental place asked me if I was ok with taking a Mustang convertible. Ummm…yeah, I think I can handle that. After picking up the car, I consulted my Google Maps route to get me to the hotel I was staying at in Long Beach. Carlson Waglonlit had booked me into the Holiday Inn on Atlantic Ave. Here was the view from my room’s window. [...]

Week 2 of training complete – feeling pretty good

Well week 2 of the program is over and I’m feeling pretty good. This week’s long run was 7 miles (or 11.2 km). I stopped to walk twice on the run, but the second time was not because of my legs or lungs…it was my shoulder that was really bothering me. I’ve had a problem with my shoulder since may of this year, after hurting it laying out in an Ultimate game. I keep threatening to go to the doctor but never actually make it. Anyways, if it wasn’t for my shoulder bothering me on Saturday, I would have made my goal of one walking break for the whole run. Oh well…I still felt good about it. [...]

Great day for a flight

It was that time again…time for me to get up flying or lose my currency with the club. I decided that today was the day (actually the day chose me – it was day 30 since my last flight) and luckily the weather cooperated. I asked my coworker Gregg T if he wanted to go, but he’s not crazy about the thought of flying in a small plane so he turned me down. Then I asked Chris Foo, who I’ve been meaning to take up for a while now, but he was busy. So then I asked another guy from work, Paul Smeulders, and he jumped at the chance. We arrived at the club just after noon and the plane was waiting for us. After doing a walk around we got the plane fired up. I tried to check ATIS but wasn’t hearing anything. I checked other frequencies and the radio was working fine so I called up clearance and told them I wasn’t able to get the ATIS. They informed me that it was offline for maintenace. Good – I was hoping my radio wasn’t the problem. [...]
