Posted by Kevin, on September 27th, 2005 Well Ellie is out of surgery. Actually she got out last night. I picked her up at around 8 pm. They had wanted her to spend the night there but since they don’t have anyone at the actual clinic past 8 pm, we decided that she’d be better off at home where I could watch over her. I was told that the surgery went well but that we wouldn’t know for sure if it was a success for up to six months! Ellie needs to stay confined to her crate for the next three days and can’t get any exercise for at least the next 30 days. I’ve been carrying her up and down the stairs and will continue to do so for quite a while. She may have to start sleeping downstairs. :) [...]
Posted by Kevin, on September 25th, 2005 Wow! What an experience! First off big thanks to Steve who invited me along to this race, thanks for having some faith in me Steve. Yesterday I competed in my first adventure race. It was the Salomon Adventure Challenge – Canadian Championship race. Despite its name, it is open to anyone which is why I was able to compete. It was scheduled to be a 14 hour race, or at least that was supposed to be the cut off time, but the first place team completed the race in just over seven and a half hours. My team came in somewhere just over 12 hours I think. I didn’t actually get our official time yet. Steve tells me it’ll be up on the website eventually. [...]

Congratulations to John and Dana who are the proud new parents of J (John) David Kean.
Born Sept 17, 2005 @ 23:09 in Ottawa. Both baby and mother are doing great. John is a little stressed out and is being teased by all the nurses.
I only took a few photos, and you can have a look at them on Flickr [...]
Posted by Kevin, on September 17th, 2005 I took my camera, a Canon Powershot S2 IS back into Henry’s today because when looking through the viewfinder, the image was really blury. I brought my receipt with me because I figured the camera would have to be sent back in for repair with Canon. Lucky for me, I got probably the best sales person they have at that store. He fixed me up in about 10 seconds. Turns out the diopter adjustment for the viewfinder had been moved. D’Oh! Talk about me feeling like a complete idiot. Oh well. The good news was that I started talking to this guy about different accessories for my camera. We talked about different lens ‘add-ons’ like the one that Boris got for his camera recently. I’m now thinking of purchasing an add-on that will take my optical zoom level from 12x to 24x! Of course I really don’t have much use for that, but it would still be cool! :) [...]
Posted by Kevin, on September 16th, 2005 Ellie has been limping for a while now, just a little bit, after getting up from sleeping or resting. One she got moving though, she seemed fine and walked normally. I figured that maybe she was just a bit sore or had a pulled muscle or something. In time I expected her to get better, and it seemed like she was. Well on Tuesday, when I got home from work, there was a note from the dog walker. She noticed that Ellie was limping a bit when she picked her up, but as usual, by the time they got to the park, she seemed fine and was running around with the other dogs. However, at one point, she ran past Petra (the dog walker) on three legs! I called Ellie over to me and sure enough, she wouldn’t put any weight on her left hind leg. Not good. [...]
Posted by Kevin, on September 13th, 2005 31 Kms in about an hour and 10 minutes. Heart rate was above target (164) for most of the ride. Didn’t see any attack beavers on this ride… [...]
Posted by Kevin, on September 8th, 2005 So our house is up for sale. Here is the listing on MLS, and here is a virtual tour of the place. [...]
Posted by Kevin, on September 8th, 2005 I’ve replaced my desire for an iPod shuffle with desire for a new iPod nano. Seems to be everything I want in a portable music player. I still want a full sized iPod though, just to offload drive space on my mac. Of course if I ever get around to buying a mini…then I should have plenty of extra drive space. [...]
Posted by Kevin, on September 6th, 2005 I went flying this past Sunday and I took a co-worker, his son and his son’s friend up with me. We took a quick trip out to Carleton Place so they could snap some pictures of their houses. I lent my camera to one of the boys because it had the big zoom on it. We didn’t end up with any spectacular pictures. :) The weather was beautiful! Nice warm sunny day with only a little turbulance. I brought the ‘barf bag’ with me just in case. It wasn’t needed. On the way back I decided to swing by the Carp airport and do a touch and go. Probably a good thing I did because I got one of my worst landings ever out of my system before heading back to Ottawa. The boys seemed to enjoy it though. [...]
