1:59:32.0

This is going to be short because I’m pretty wiped out. That is my time for the half marathon I ran today. I’m not overly impressed with it but at least I kept it under 2 hours. Not running for the past two and a half weeks didn’t help me any, that’s for sure.

For those who may have been following Grant and my trash talking…he kicked my ass! His time was 1:45:48.7

I lost him somewhere between the 9 and 10 km mark. He kept running at his pace and I slowed up a bit. Saw him again on the hairpin part of the couse, he was going one way and I was going the other and then didn’t see him again.

Half Marathon it is…

Well it’s official. I got a confirmation email from the coordinators of the NCM saying that my registration has been switched to the Half Marathon event.

Now I just need to get rid of this cold that I picked up and I’ll be all set. A week and a half to go until the race. I think I’ll just use Grant as my ‘pace bunny’ and then make my last stride before the finish just slightly larger than his so I beat him. :)

Just for fun – World View

Saw this on Boris’ personal site. Figured I’d give it a try. I’m thinking this would probably change on a day to day basis for me, depending on how I’m feeling at the time but…

You scored as Existentialist. Existentialism emphasizes human capability. There is no greater power interfering with life and thus it is up to us to make things happen. Sometimes considered a negative and depressing world view, your optimism towards human accomplishment is immense. Mankind is condemned to be free and must accept the responsibility.

Holy Crap, only 23 Days!

Only 23 days before my wedding! Work has been getting me so down lately that I really haven’t been thinking about anything else. Hopefully that will be changing soon enough though. I’m hoping to be able to make a post about that in the near future, stay tuned.

Anyways, for those who are coming to the wedding, if you haven’t done so already, get off your butts and book your hotel room. It’s gonna be one hell of a party! :)

Tapering begins…

I only had to run 5 miles (8 km) and I took a little inspiration from Steve Meyer for my run today. I talked to Steve yesterday after he read my post which said I was only going to run the half instead of the full marathon. Steve, like Grant, doesn’t follow the 10 and 1 method when running, he just runs until he needs to stop then walks for a bit and then runs again. On his 32 km run on Sunday he only walked 3 times and he finished it in 2 hours and 50 minutes! Nice work Steve!

Anyways, I decided to try out this no walking method for my 5 miles today. I ended up doing the 5 miles in just over 40 minutes (probably 40 minutes and 30 seconds) but I was quite tired afterwards. I really think my body is trying to tell me to slow down right now. I’m sitting here, about 4 hours after my run and my achilles tendon on my right foot is really tight. I haven’t decided if I’ll be running the 8 miles that is scheduled for tomorrow or not. I’m just really tired all the time now (especially so after my runs) and it’s probably because I’m not eating that well.

32 kms…

I made a decision yesterday as I was finishing up my 32 km run. I’m pretty sure that I wont be running the full marathon at the end of May. It’s a disappointment, I know, but I just don’t think my body is ready for it. I will definitely do the half marathon though.

The run yesterday was going well. When I got to the half way mark, 16 kms, I was still feeling pretty good. However, when I got to the 21.5 km mark…my body was telling me to stop. Between then and the 24 km mark I did a lot more walking than I had wanted to. When I got to 24 kms, I stopped to chat with a friend of mine who’s house was just off the path I was running on. I stopped for just over 20 minutes and then got back on the trail and started running again. I ran for about 2 more K and then walked for a minute and a half or so. I ran for another K before deciding that I was pretty much done. I walked the remaining 5 kms. I was disappointed.

19 more miles…

I’ll say again – don’t take 2 weeks off in the middle of a training program and just sit on your ass.

Did 22.4 kms (14 miles) on Sunday. I only managed to run 20 of the 22.4 kms and ended up walking the rest of the way back to the house. It was definitely tough. My legs were pretty sore on Monday and Tuesday.

Tuesday (yesterday) I ran 5 more miles, picking up at week 15 of the training program. I think my legs were even more sore after those 5 miles. I was hoping the run would loosen me up some but not so.

Tonight is 10 more miles. Haven’t decided if it will be indoors or outdoors, probably outside.

No More Comment SPAM?

I took Boris’ advise and downloaded and installed the SPAM drupal module. I’m anxious to see how well it does. I realize that I could have just moderated any comments manually, but I didn’t like that idea. This way valid comments will get posted without delay and comment SPAM will get filtered to a moderation queue where I can delete it whenever I get time.

Dave – this is pretty much exactly the functionality I’ve been wanting. I really should take some time to browse what other modules are availab
