What a beautiful day for flying! I got up early (since that is really the only feasible time for me to do any flying now that the days are so short) and headed to the club for an 8 o’clock booking. I was the first person there so I had to wait for Mark to show up to open the place.
Luckily they had stored a whole pile of planes in the hangar over night so I didn’t have to deal with frost on the plane, and I got to do my walk around in the warm comfort of the hangar. Unfortunately my plane was not the first in line to exit the hangar (did I mention how amazed I was at how they fit all those planes in the hangar? Kind of like a jigsaw puzzle) so I had to wait until they moved the 172 out of the way. This meant I didn’t get off the ground until about 8:20 instead of 8 but oh well, I saved myself some money.
Headed out to the practice area to practice slow flight, stalls, steep turns and even a forward slip. Things went pretty good. It was pretty quiet out in the practice area, at least where I was working. On the way out there though, you could see some low lying fog hanging over all the bodies of water in Gatineau, all along the river as well as over the many lakes and ponds. Funny thing was though, that the Ottawa river was clear and so was Constance Lake. It was cool to see.
I also managed to finally take a picture of myself flying a plane! I set the camera up on the dash and put the timer on. I’ll post the two pictures I took in my gallery when I get home. I also took a picture of the Nortel Carling site while I was flying by. The picture was taken from about 1500 feet. I’ll post that too.
I’m supposed to fly again tomorrow morning, but who knows if the weather will be nice. Then on Sunday I’m doing the flying portion of the pre-flight test with Brad. The plan was to do it last Sunday, but our ground portion ended up taking A LOT longer than we had planned. That’s mainly because I wasn’t as prepared as I should have been. I think I’ve rectified that now so Sunday should be fun.
