I got up relatively early this morning so that I could go for a swim with Ellie (the dog) to tire her out for the day. We went to a spot that Amy and I found last week. It’s on the Ottawa river and it’s public access which is another reason I wanted to go early, I figured there wouldn’t be anybody there. I was right.
When I pulled into the parking lot of the place, there was one car and a whole pile of garbage laying around…mostly empty beer cups (or at least the kind of cups you use for beer when you’re not allowed to have bottles, or if you have a keg perhaps). I thought it was strange that there was so much garbage since the last time I was there it was pretty clean.
Anyways, we headed down towards the water. The path to the water is pretty long but Ellie was kind of anxious to get there so it didn’t take too long. When we got down there, there was a fire still smouldering and ALL KINDS of garbage laying around.
Of course immediately I blamed (and still do) a bunch of kids who probably were partying down there the night before and didn’t bother to clean up after themselves. Even if it wasn’t kids, I’m still pissed that someone would make such a huge mess and not clean it up. I’m not even going to touch the fact that the fire was still smouldering…
I got to thinking that perhaps the car that was in the parking lot was left there the night before by someone who didn’t want to drink and drive (seems they may have had some sense). I decided that I would take down the license plate number and give it to Amy. :) Unfortunately by the time I left, the car was gone.
Ellie and I had a pretty good swim. She definitely swam more than I did though. We had some races where I would throw the frisbee out into the water and then we’d both swim for it. Let me tell you…she doesn’t like to lose!
I think we’ll probably go again tomorrow morning. I’ll be bringing a garbage bag with me in case all that garbage is still there.
I went back on Sunday morning for another swim. I brought a garbage bag with me, but I was happy to see that I didn’t need it. The huge mess had been cleaned up. Not sure by who, but at least it got done.
