Solo circuit time done!

Friday evening was a no go. Winds were gusting up to 17 Kts. I was a little disappointed because I would have finished off my solo time in the circuit, but what can ya do?

I was worried that today was going to be the same story, but luckily I was wrong. Winds were only 10 Kts and for most of the day they were pretty much right down the runway so no worries.

Funny thing happened while I was doing my first few circuits with Brad in the plane. I had just taken off and was listening on the tower frequency when I heard a familiar voice, or at least I thought I did. I don’t know many people who fly so I never expect to hear someone I know on the radio. Anyways, I was sure I knew who it was the next time I heard them speak, especially since he was flying PMR! It was Andy! I was tempted to say a quick hello over the air, but you can’t go doing that shit on the tower frequency. :)

When I stopped to drop Brad off, sure enough, there was Andy and Chris on the patio at the club. I gave them a quick wave before heading up for some more solo circuits.

Things went ok today. I was working on keeping the plane straight for the entire approach instead of making corrections just before landing. I think things went ok. I noticed that every once in a while I was flaring a bit late or something because when I expected the plane to ‘hover’ above the runway, I was actually touching down with the rear wheels.

After today I’ve got 4.5 hours of solo time in the circuit. That means that we move onto something else for next time. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to book Brad for my regular Wednesday evening time slot, or Thursday evening, or even Friday evening. He’s booked up solid on Saturday until 5 too! ARGH! Anyways, I ended up booking a slot on Thursday morning at 8 am and also Friday morning. I think I’ll wait to see what the plan is before I book anymore. Brad talked about me having to go up with one of the senior instructors soon so…

As I was taxiing down Papa, someone came on the frequency and said “Hi, lover” (!). I can only assume it was the controller’s buddy :)

Congrats on getting your solo time done! Next it’s solo to the practice area, and then you will be in the home stretch!

Or at least I assume it was Chris who put the comment pointing to his gallery. :)

I think I’d like to grab that photo and paste it directly here if it’s ok with you…
