Solo time on 04

Well I’ve been slacking off lately, and haven’t been posting about my flight training. I’ve gone twice so far this week and will be flying again this afternoon so I figured I’d better put an update on my blog about what’s going on.

Wednesday I showed up at the club as usual around five or so. There had been thunderstorms and heavy rain just prior to me leaving work so I figured I wouldn’t be flying, but since I had ground school later on that night I figured I might as well show up. Even if I didn’t go flying, Brad would likely have a ground briefing planned or something.

Turns out, the bad weather had just passed us by by the time I got there and so I ended up getting more solo time in the circuit. Wind was basically calm. I think I racked up 0.7 hours more solo time.

Then yesterday, Thursday, I showed up to the club after work, again around 5 or so. Actually I was a bit early. Winds were somewhat iffy for me to go solo, but Brad said we’d head up and see how things were anyways. I had booked a double for the airplane so that after I dropped Brad off I’d be able to get in more than an hour of solo time, and it’s a good thing I did.

We were late getting going because another student of Brad’s just did her first solo and we had to wait for her to get back, then douse her with water, and then Brad had to explain how things were going to work from that point forward. He didn’t jump into the plane with me until 5:30 or so.

As I mentioned, it was a bit breezy, and the winds were such that we had to use runway 04 instead of 22 so I was a bit nervous since I haven’t had much practice on 04, but I did ok. I dropped Brad off after 3 circuits (0.7 hours) and then went back up on my own. I flew an aditional 1.4 hours before calling it a night. I was done at 7:30 or so and probably would have done a few more circuits but I really had to go to the bathroom! Note to self, don’t drink so much water!

I’m feeling pretty comfortable on my own now. It got a bit bumpy yesterday, especially down near the runway, but it didn’t really bother me. Today should be the end of my solo circuit time, which means hopefully I’ll be going solo in the practice area soon enough.
