Correcting problems on landing

Well I’ve been slacking off and not writing anything about my last couple of flying lessons. I had one last Friday, the 21st and then another one on Sunday, the 23rd. Both lessons were just more flying the circuit and working on landings.

Both days the wind was pretty much non existant and what wind was present was coming right down the runway so once again, no crosswind landing practice. ARGH!

On Sunday, since the wind wasn’t what we were looking for and since I really wanted to fly anyways, Brad decided that we would work on fixing a bad landing, if it were to happen. This isn’t typically part of the training, but since we weren’t getting the crosswinds we were hoping for, he wanted to keep it interesting.

All we really worked on was correcting a ‘balloon’ on landing. Ballooning is when you pull up too much on your flare and the plane starts to climb rather than just leveling out.

We also did some more landings with 40 degrees of flaps…those have got to me my favourite landings! It’s amazing how short of a landing run you need when you’re landing with full flaps.

So it looks like some of my next bookings may have to be cancelled if we don’t get the crosswind we need. I need to get signed off on crosswind landings before I can go solo. Kind of annoying that the weather has been so ‘good’ lately. :)

Tonight is the first night of my ground school. I’m supposed to go flying at 5 but not sure if it’s going to rain or not. Ground school starts at 7 I think and goes for 3 hours.
