New iMac!

Well the new iMac was unveiled today. Very sweet! I’m seriously considering getting one of the 20″ widescreen models. It’s a litle pricey, but as always, you get what you pay for.

I was previously considering getting a powerbook, but I’m not really (or at least haven’t been) a laptop kind of guy.

At any rate, I don’t need to make the decision too quickly, the purchase wont happen until at least early next year.

Gallery Upgrade

Took some time today to upgrade my version of Gallery. This should make it a little faster and it also adds support for RSS feeds – so stay tuned for a new block on haggaret.com which will show updated albums to my gallery. :)

Thanks Boris for telling me about it.

BC Trip – The Wedding, Capilano, and Phosphorescence

Sunday, the day of the wedding, we got up late and headed down to our private dock for a quick swim and some fun diving pictures. There was a black lab at the dock who was enjoying the water too. We’d throw a stick in the water for him and he’d jump in to get it. Then he’d have to swim all the way back to shore, jump back up on the far end of the dock, and bring the stick back to us. Once he dropped the stick relatively close to us, he’d start barking until one of us picked up the stick and threw it again. Poor guy – wouldn’t even jump from the high part of the dock. Ellie would have put him to shame!

Back in the Circuit

After my first cross country, I booked my next cross country for the following Sunday, but that seemed like too long to wait to go flying again so I decided to go again on Wednesday. I decided that I would fly some circuits to get back in the groove.

Showed up at the club for my 5 o’clock booking, hoping to get someone to sign me out for some circuits. Luc was around, so I got him to sign me out. Thankfully, since I had already finished my solo time in the practice area, I didn’t need an instructor to come up with me for a couple of circuits before letting me go alone. That would have been a pain, not to mention that it would cost me more. :)

First Cross Country

This is getting to be a had habit for me…not writing up my flying lessons right away. I remember when I used to write them up right after I got home…oh the good old days.

Did my first cross country flight last Sunday, the 22nd. A flight is apparently considered a ‘cross country’ if you travel more than 25 NM from your point of departure. This particular cross country was from Ottawa (YOW), to Smith Falls, (YSH) to Arnprior (NP3) and then back to Ottawa.

My last time flying was on July 21st…so it had been over a month since I had to control an airplane, and boy did it show! I was pretty rusty with most things so that didn’t make the flight any easier. It was a busy flight, continuously looking at the map, and the ground, trying to keep my altitude steady, as well as my heading. Then add to that my less than practiced knowledge of uncontrolled airport procedures and well, it was interesting.

BC Trip – Getting there and pre wedding stuff

Well it’s been nearly two weeks now since I got back from my trip out west. I’ve been meaning to post about it, but it feels like I haven’t had a chance to just sit down and relax since I got back. I’m there now though, sitting back with a beer, getting ready to type out a regular ‘Kevin Story’. Warning…this is gonna be a long one!

It all started on Friday, July 30th around 2 in the afternoon. Our (Dave and me) flight wasn’t until 4:35 or so, but I like to get to the airport early, just in case. As it turned out, 2 hours early wasn’t really necessary, but like I said, I’d rather be safe than sorry. Bonnie was nice enough to come and pick us up at work and drive us to the airport. I got to sit in the back of the car with Maya who wasn’t too impressed with being forced to sit so close to me. :)

BC Pictures

I’ve been really slack lately on the posts. I do plan to do a significant write up about the trip to BC, but it’s not going to be tonight.

This post is just to say that I’ve got my pictures uploaded, so you can go and check them out.

I decided to follow Dave’s lead with how the pictures are broken up. Thanks for the idea Dave.

BTW, I haven’t really gone through the pictures yet to delete the really bad (or duplicate) ones so there are a ton there. Enjoy.

Quick post from B&K’s appartment

It’s nearly time for bed here in Vancouver, but I figured since I had access to the internet for the first time in a week or so that I would make a quick post.

I’m using Boris’ laptop, wirelessly no less, and I have to say, it’s pretty sweet! I think my next computer purchase may need to be a laptop. Just don’t tell Amy. :)

It’s been an unbelievable vacation so far, I just wish Amy had come along with me. I think after I show her the pictures and tell her the stories, she wont want to miss another trip like this one.

I’m not going to get into it right now, but some of the highlights of the trip so far have been the sauna at the HollyBarry Cottage, Boris and Kate’s wedding (the meat stick), the trip to Capilano Suspension Bridge, the phosphorescence we saw in the cove at the other cottage and the float plane trip from Nanaimo to Vancouver.
