And more landing practice…

Slight change of plans for Sunday. I had planned to go into the club early to write the PSTAR before my lesson but it turned out I still haden’t finished studying by the time I left the house in time to make it for my 1400 lesson. No big deal though, I was able to write the test after my lesson. Anyways, got to the club, secured a plane (XAM, yay!) and proceeded to start flying more circuits. There was much more of a crosswind on Sunday than I had experienced so far (exept for my first day in the circuit) and to be honest, I was having a little bit of trouble with it. Brad tells me I’m still over controlling the plane when I try to make corrections. Trust me, I’m trying not to do that, but it seems I just can’t help it! ARGH! Talk about frustrating. Once again my last landing of the day was probably my best. [...]

More landing practice

Thursday was a bust. By the time I got to the club there was a nice black cloud just to the north of the airport. Brad said flying was a no go, so we did a ground briefing on safety procedures (fires, etc) instead. I did go flying on Friday though. It was quite a bit more breezy than it was on Wednesday. Things didn’t go quite as smoothly, but I still managed to land the plane quite a few times. No overshoots this time. Had an ‘interesting’ landing. Was coming in ok, but just before we touched down the plane kind of twisted on me and we came down on one of the main wheels and kind of bounced. At this point Brad says, “I’ve got control” followed by “I’ve got control!”. He gave her full power and took off right away so we didn’t touch down again. He asked me if I was scared, but to be honest I wasn’t. I knew it wasn’t a good thing, what was happening, but I didn’t think it was life threatening or anything. Perhaps ignorance is bliss. :) [...]

The ‘Option’

Didn’t think I was going to actually get to fly today, since they were calling for thunderstorms in the afternoon all day. Luckily ‘they’ were wrong and it turned out to be a beautiful day! I hadn’t been flying in almost 2 weeks so I was worried that I would be quite rusty. However, I have been dreaming about flying and that must have helped because I didn’t feel rusty at all! I had been thinking about the difficulties I have been having with landing and I thought I had it figured out. When you take off, just before you actually take off, you have to roll the ailerons back to a neutral position…I was doing the same thing when coming into a landing. You don’t necessarily want to do that for landing. I figured I’d give my theory a try today. [...]

Squeezebox by Slim Devices

For those that have been paying attention, you may have noticed that the Squeezebox has disappeared off my wishlist. That’s because I finally bought one! I decided that since we were heading down to Toronto this past weekend, I’d take the opportunity to stop off at Kawartha TV in Peterborough. After contacting Slim Devices to see if there was a retailer available in Canada so I could avoid the crazy shipping and brokerage fees, they told me about Kawartha TV and gave me their web site. I checked it out and then emailed them to see if they had any in stock. They replied that they did so I told them to hang on to one of them for me. [...]

My name is Kevin Haggerty. Currently living in Ottawa, ON, but originally from Fredericton, NB.
